Just two weeks remain until the 2015 edition of the Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority (SIGA) Poker Championship. Hosted by the Dakota Dunes Casino in Whitecap, Saskatchewan, the SIGA Poker Championship is an annual $550 two day event that attracts some of the top poker talent from around the prairies.

Just 20 minutes south of Saskatoon, Dakota Dunes is situated on the Whitecap First Nation overlooking the South Saskatchewan River valley. In the 2014 edition of the Poker Championship, the casino played host to 420 players looking to snatch a piece of the $250,000 prize pool. As an added bonus for players heading out to Dakota Dunes, the Bad Beat Jackpot currently sits above $189,000, the largest in Saskatchewan history.

Chris Bowers, a local player from Swift Current, Saskatchewan, was the one to take home the top prize in 2014, collecting over $50,000 for his win as well as a ticket to the 2015 World Series of Poker Main Event. The win earned Bowers his first entry on his Hendon Mob page, as well as a bankroll to play other events, and he used that to win Event #1 at the 2015 Winter Super Stack at Deerfoot Inn & Casino in Calgary, Alberta in February of this year.

  1. 2019 SIGA Poker Champion, John Hashem from Regina, SK. Takes home $45,769.00, the coveted sterling silver poker championship bracelet, plus a seat to the World Series of Poker 2020 in Las Vegas, valued at $10,000 USD.
  2. Dakota Dunes Casino will be hosting the SIGA Poker Championship on October 5 & 6, 2013 which features an estimated $250,000 Prize Pool. There is a $550 buy-in consisting of ($500 Entry fee, $50 Admin Fee).

Capped at 460 players, this year's tournament looks to be just as big. With an estimated $230,000 in prizes, the 2015 edition will again likely feature a first prize of over $50,000. Action gets under way in the Main Event on Saturday October 3 at 11 a.m. for Day 1, with survivors of Day 1 hitting the felt for Day 2 which kicks off at 11 a.m. the following day.
