Located just a 10 minute drive from Torrevieja in the seaside resort area of La Zenia is the famous Zenia Boulevard, the largest shopping complex in the province of Alicante. When visiting the boulevard it is immediately apparent what excellent architectural work has been created during the construction, everything is of high quality including the underground car park which has multiple entrances and exits and the capacity to house somewhere in the region of 5000 cars. The car park contains lots of handy symbols, numbers and colours on the walls and pillars to help you remember where your parking space is. From here there are lifts and escalators to the boulevard’s 2 huge shopping and entertainment levels. Every aspect of the shopping complex is immaculately kept and there are over 90 different species of plants and trees, all arranged beautifully and cared for on a daily basis as well as a series of hidden pipes throughout the complex that spray a cooling mist of water on passing shoppers, a real blessing during the hot summer months .

On the upper level there is a selection of restaurants and takeaways, some offering fantastic sea views and others overlooking the lower level entertainment area where, especially during the summer months, there is live music and a huge TV screen. For visitors that are feeling lucky, the boulevard also has the Casino Mediterraneo with a selection of gaming tables and fruit machines that stays open until the early hours. Zenia Boulevard is open every day of the year from 10.00 – 22.00 in the winter months and 10.00 – 23.00 in the summer. Please note : on major holidays such as Christmas and New Years day, only the dining and leisure outlets are open.
The coastal city of Torrevieja offers visitors a great range of evening activities and entertainment, and due to the fact that the Spanish like to dine and socialise until fairly late at night, many of the city’s restaurants, shops and shopping centres have late night opening hours. On the outskirts of the city the Habaneras Shopping Centre houses about 60 shops and boutiques as well as bars, cafes and restaurants. It is open every day of the week from 10.00am to 10.00pm for shopping, and the restaurants and car parks close at 01.00am
In neighbouring Orihuela Costa, the huge La Zenia Boulevard is the largest shopping complex in the province of Alicante and provides for an excellent evening out. Orihuela Costa is an extremely popular area with holidaymakers from Britain, Ireland and northern Europe with fantastic Blue Flag beaches and loads of attractions. It is neither a city or town but more of a collection of holiday resorts and residential areas that are serviced by commercial centres providing amenities such as banks, pharmacies, shops, cafes, bars and restaurants. The areas of La Zenia and Playa Flamenca are the largest and most popular with both visitors and permanent residents, and aside from their lovely beaches, offer great shopping opportunities.

La Zenia Boulevard is about a 15 minute walk from the beach and as you enter the complex the lovely architecture and excellent design is immediately apparent. A great deal of thought has gone into the construction of the Boulevard and the entire complex has been designed to be user friendly for those with limited mobility. The underground car park has various entrances and exits and the capacity to house somewhere in the region of 5000 cars. The parking bays are clearly marked and colour coded making it easy to find your vehicle on your way out, and there are stairs, lifts and escalators connecting its 3 levels.
The first level houses the majority of its shops and boutiques that include a number of popular high street brands including Zara, H&M, Decathlon, Primark, C&A, Leroy Merlin, Media Markt and Mango. For those who don’t know it, Leroy Merlin is a Spanish department store and has its entrance opposite the outside car park. The store stocks a comprehensive range of home, DIY and garden products very similar to B&Q in the UK. Next to this, the Boulevard has its own petrol station that often has the lowest priced fuel of anywhere in Orihuela Costa. Media Markt is another large Spanish retailer where you can find an excellent variety of home appliances, electrical and electronic goods. This level also houses the huge Al Campo Supermarket that stocks a mind boggling range of groceries, fresh produce, clothing, toys, homeware and more. Within Al Campo there are a selection of small independent shops such as mobile phone & internet providers and a very busy nail salon.

Throughout the complex there are pleasant seating areas and over 90 different species of plants and trees, all arranged beautifully and cared for on a daily basis. Added to this is a unique cooling system hidden above the walkways that sprays a fine mist of water on passing shoppers, a very clever and welcome idea on those hot summer days. Among the shops are various independent stalls selling a variety of arts & crafts as well as popular snacks. The shopping level has an entertainment area that is overlooked by the dining level above and has a huge TV screen as well as live entertainment on most evenings during the summer. Here there are a selection of cafes, soft play area and water fountains for the kids to enjoy. There are also kids electric cars and ride on animals for hire.
